Our belief
As with any environment there are many things in the Web that
conflict with the teachings of my church and the ideals of the
Knights
of Columbus
to which I belong. I
made the decision to improve the landscape so to speak by designing sites
that would add a positive influence to the Web. My decision led me to examine a lot of church and similarly appointed
sites. The majority of the sites were informative but alos quite
predictable and rather dull. Though there is nothing wrong with
that, with the context of these sites, I just felt these sites were missing
a chance to influence their visitors When you see silly animations, pictures, links to gaming, advertisments
and search bars on our pages they are there to attract people (especially
the young) and hold their interest for just a liitle longer, hopefully
directing them to content we know through research is appropriate and
worthwhile without always being dull. To influence people you must
first get their attention and most of the church and religious organization
sites are not making this effort. Those sites assume that visitors
to their sites is limited to the group they represent. The Web
though is worldwide and I have seen small sites of obscure groups visited
by web surfers from around the world. My own council site in a
small town in Delaware has had hits (visits) from countries around the
world. The point is to make your investment in a web site a multi-purpose tool
to project the positive influence which churches, fraternal, and religious
organizations represent. More bang for the buck. I spend a lot of time searching out fun and worthwhile things on the
net so that they are available for the sites we design. They are
integrated within the sites like little hidden gifts. So do not make
fun of my winking bunny, he is a leader and quite an inflential character
to our youth. Mark Madachik Webmaster member KofC 12509 |
